Cheerio!

Regardless of USC's performance on the field this year, I think we can all agree that their cheerleaders should certainly rank #1 EVERY SINGLE YEAR, so much so that if BetBug were to open up a proposition for it, I'm quite certain the posted odds by anyone and everyone would be, to say the least, prohibitive.

Nfl Week 12

Turkey weekend continues today with some very big games. The NFC South could go a long way to being decided today with the Saints at the Falcons, Falcons -3 -105 at BetBug. Then we have a huge game with the Bears heading to Foxborough, Patriots -3.5 -110 at BetBug, and the day is topped off by a suddenly much bigger game for the Colts, who while they probably will destroy Philly as 8pt favourites at BetBug, if they did not, would suddenly open the doors for the Ravens to grab home field advantage in the conference.

Tough Luck Hitch, guess you should have stayed in Philly!

Well I imagine that losing 3-2 to his old team is not exactly how Hitch would have liked to return to the league.

And to make matters worse, Richards, an under-performer for Hitchcock is the one that sticks it to his old coach with his first of the year.

Apparently the grass is not always greener on the other side...

Look who's coming to (turkey) Dinner

Of all the unlikely events to transpire in this year's NFL, this must rank right up there. Joey Harrington comes back to Motown this week, starting for the Dolphins as they take on his old team, the Detroit Lions.

Not exactly the return of the conquering hero is it? But if you ask Dolphin fans they'll tell you he has been the better QB so far.

The Fish are 3 point favourites at BetBug and I do like them. If for no other reason that I can just picture the look of exasperation on Lions's fans faces when their team loses to a guy they could not wait to boot out of town. The height of irony.

Regardless of whether they win or not, do you think that maybe, just maybe, the Dolphins are feeling just a wee bit stupid for passing on Drew Brees?

OUCH.

R.I.P. BO

As if this game needed anymore focus on it, it just got some. With the passing of Bo Schembechler yesterday, the Game of the Century just became even bigger thanks to the icon that was Bo in Ann Arbour last century.

I think everytime Michigan scores (and it will be often), they should wheel his coffin, draped in Maze and Blue, once around the Big House. The crowd would go wild. And you just know that's what Bo would want.

Michigan +7 -110 at BetBug. Game time 3:30pm. Do not be late.

The End of the Chase

Well, the Nascar season has but one race left, and unfortunately for the fools that run the series, their contrived little playoff system has not exactly had the intended effect. They desired to keep the competition for year end honours closer, down to the last race. Well guess what! Just the opposite has occured. Johnson has an all but unbeatable 63 point lead on Kenseth in the current Chase Standings. But if you do the standings the "Classic" way, with no idiotic last 10 race rejigging, well guess what.

Johnson leads Kenseth by just 11 points!

Think that might be a little exciting heading into the year's final race, odds up for Homestead at www.BetBug.com, think that might have drawn a few viewers?

In typical fashion of all sports leagues, the clownish buffoons who run Nascar completely over-reacted to a short term trend of their series not having close enough finishes for a couple of years, and have wrecked what should have been one of the best finishes in years.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it Nascar.

Loyd Carr 1-4 VS OSU

I don't care if his team has not lost a game yet this season. On Saturday in Columbus, with OSU -6.5 -105 at BetBug, so help me God, if Michigan loses to OSU, even is they go on to then beat say USC in the Rose Bowl, Carr MUST BE GONE.

A 10 loss season, so long as the two wins are over Notre Dame and OSU, is preferable to a 11-1 season if you lose to OSU. And there's not a Wolverine fan on the planet that disagrees with this.

You may think you have accomplished a great deal so far this year Loyd. INCORRECT! This is the only game that matters. And you'd better damn well win it.

Just when I was starting to get excited

Bloody Hell

I guess that 30:1 at BetBug is not exactly the value I thought it was. At least not for the next month or so.

Sens in Free Fall

Since they beat up on the now suddenly not so happless Leafs two weeks ago, the Sens have not won a game, going 0 for 4.

And now comes word that Ray Emery, their best goalie is out, possibly long term.

In fact their present state of affairs brings to mind my favourite line from any NFL Coach ever. To quote Jim Mora, "PLAYOFFS??! PLAYOFSS?!! WE CAN'T EVEN WIN A GAME!

A Sound Thrashing

As hard as it is to believe, a hockey team based in Atlanta (or maybe not so hard considering the geography of the last two Cup champs...) is one of the best teams in the league.

With Hossa and Kovalchuk (he of the hat trick last night) going full guns ablazing, and with a healthy goalie (unlike last year), Atlanta is a real and very serious Cup contender at 13-1 at www.BetBug.com

Meet Your New Horse of the Year

So much for the comparisons to Spectacular Bid eh Bernardini fans.

Ghostzapper would have run this colt into the ground. And he was just a few short years ago.

Tough luck Berny. Invasor made you look ordinary.

The Calm Before the Storm

Not to take anything away from Ball State or Illinois, but I don't think Ohio State or Michigan are exactly focusing on this weekend. More likely they have the date of November 18th emblazoned in their minds. When they'll meet in Columbus with a birth in the BCS Championship on the line. So enjoy this weekend's games people, but remember this really is just the calm before the storm.

Gee What a suprise, no Tiger

Uh, does anyone ever get the idea that if Tiger Woods could get away with just playing the 4 majors he would. In a shock to no one, Woods is skipping the Tour Championship this week and probably will not play again this year. How many actual events did he even play this year? 10? 11? If I were the tournaments on the outside looking in at the events he actually deigns to show up for, I'd be telling the PGA Tour that there is no way in hell I'm providing the big bucks that they now expect. Why should they. They know their number one draw is not showing up so why should they pony up any extra cash.

This is a problem that is NOT going to go away any time soon. Enjoy all that new TV cash PGA members...it's not going to last.

The Breeders Cup

The Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships take place this weekend at Churchill Downs. For a good look at who I like, check out The Pick Of The Day over the next few days.

But before we get to the nitty gritty of the betting, first a few comments.

The Breeders Cup, while far and away the best day of racing on this continent, is not even close to living up to its grandiose moniker of the "World Thoroughbred Championships". Between Arc Day at Longchamp, Champions Day at Newmarket, The Canadian International and EP Taylor at Woodbine, and then the Hong Kong and Japan Cups later on in the year, the best turf horses in the world are now more and more likely to bypass the Breeders Cup in favor of bigger purses, shorter travel, and less onerous qualifying restrictions.

How can the BC fix this problem and regain it's eminance? Simple. MORE MONEY.

Every single race in the BC is now worth 2million. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Not Close. The purse for the whole day should be doubled, and specifically the purse for the Breeders Cup Turf should be increased to 8 million.

Then, and only then, might we actually see the world's greatest animals all gathered together on one day. Instead of just having the best on the dirt as we have now.

Chasing Iggy

In just less than a month, the Liberal Party of Canada will be choosing a new leader.

Michael Ignatieff is the defacto front runner, but certainly is no sure thing. With his many gaffes and now his determination to re-open the Constitutional talks by characterizing Quebec as a "Nation" (what exactly does that make the rest of us???), Iggy will have some wheeling and dealing to do on the convention floor to shore up his second and perhaps even third ballet support. An ANYBODY BUT IGGY scenario could certainly develop, the only question being which one of Rae, Dion, or Kennedy would be able to take advantage of it.

www.BetBug.com's Liberal Leadership Odds:

Michael Ignatieff -190
Bob Rae +200
Stephane Dion +600
Gerald Kennedy +800
Ken Dryden +5000
Scott Brison +5000
Joe Volpe +5000
Martha Hall Findlay +5000
