NEW YEARS EVE!...and WEEK 17!

Tick Tick Tick...the calm before the storm is indeed upon us.

So while you're off celebrating tonight, spare a thought for the degenerate gamblers of the world who have but 11 more games of pro football after today to look forward to for the rest of the year!

Where will the Rocket Land?

Great article on just where Roger Clemens will end up pitching in 2008. The writer makes a great point too.

Since he "retired" three years ago, all he has done is win 40 more games and strike out over 500 more batters.

We should all have such success in our golden years!

Bobby Knight

As Bobby Knight passes Dean Smith for the most collegiate basketball wins in history, I think we can all agree, that while you may not like this man, and god knows he has some foul personal traits, he is at the very least, one HELL of a basketball coach.

Boxing Day

So here we find ourselves upon the day after Christmas, known as Boxing Day.

Now you may think you know the origin of this day, but you are probably wrong. So while you are working off your turkey (hopefully by coming up with a few winning wagers here at www.BetBug.com) allow me to elucidate you with the actual ORIGIN OF BOXING DAY

Monday, December 25, 2006

Merry Christmas!

An Accident Waiting to happen

Well it looks like Ken Griffey Jr. can't even stay healthy in the off season!!!

Injured once again. Talk about a walking disaster waiting to happen.

And he used to be so, so very good too. He'll probably still make the Hall of Fame, but he could have been one of the all time greats.

A.I.

His debut may not have been a winning one last night, but A.I. certainly is going to help the Nuggets in the short term deal with Anthony's 15 game suspension. And once Carmelo returns, the Nuggets will have the top two scorers in the league!

www.BetBug.com has offers of 17:1 on the Nuggets and once they get both guys gunning and rolling, they may well be one of the surprises of the year

Shaquille O'Neal: Then and Now

BEFORE

AFTER

Do you ever suppose that in his quietest moments Kobe Bryant realizes no matter how many 50+ point games he produces that Shaq, in the end, won their little war?

And continues to...

Witness the respective odds for the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat at www.BetBug.com to win the NBA CHAMPIONSHIP:

LA 20-1

Beijing 2008

While the 2008 Summer Olympics in China are still a few years away, is there any doubt but that all the countries in the world are gearing up for the ultimate quadrennial sporting competition.

And of course where you have sporting endevours, you will certainly have betting!

Whether it's on the glamour of the mens 100 metres or on the relative anonymity of something like fencing, wagering will surely be adding to the excitement surrounding the games of Beijing as the world's most populace nation hosts humanity in 2008

Player of the Week...and Year...

Well all Sid did this week was overtake Jagr for the NHL scoring lead and lead his team to some huge victories.

He is so good it is scary. And people think Malkin or Ovechkin are even close to this kid? Uh...no.

The Pens may 30:1 to Win the Stanley Cup at BetBug, but just for once, forget about the odds (yikes!) and just enjoy the show.

It's only going to get better. Especially in Vancouver in 2010.

The new Man-Child of Basketball - Greg Oden

The only thing I can conceive of worse than OSU winning the National Championship in football would be that they also claim the crown in basketball. And this horrific double event could well take place.

They're already a 7.5 EVEN point favourite at BetBug to beat Florida in the BCS Title Game, and oh btw...their basketball team may be even better, led by this guy:

Meet Greg Odem - the next Lebron James, except taller and bigger.

Of course OSU wouldn't even have him this year if the NBA hadn't changed their draft to dis-allow his eligibilty last year. He'd be playing for in the NBA right now. And where would he be playing?

Well let's just say I bet Chris Bosh still has dreams about having this guy by his side.

Raptors get screwed again! You just know Stern planned it that way.

YAO MING is a Force!

Last week, Yao had back to back 35pt/15rb + 28pt/18rb games. The last NBA player to record such a feat was Antonio McDyess in Nov/Dec 2000.

In his past 4 games prior to Sunday, Yao scored 137 points!!!!

Ming is on his way to becoming a truly unstoppable force in the NBA. He is basically undefendable and now appears ready to assume the leadership mantle for the Rockets.

BetBug has offers for the Rockets to Win the NBA Championship of +1200 and if Yao continues to exert his dominance, that will look like a very good bet indeed.

To continue number crunching away and to examine just how dominant Ming is starting to become, take a look at upcoming Rockets matchups on BetBug's stat site BetBug Sports Super Stats

WEEK 15

If anyone out there can tell you who is going to win the Super Bowl this season, I'd like them to step up right now.

Sure the Chargers, +250 at BetBug, look like world beaters now, but c'mon. It's Marty Schottenheimer. The Powder Blues will find a way to screw it up in the end. You just know it.

Actually the best game this weekend is not on the weekend, but in fact is played tomorrow night.

Cincy are in Indy, with Indy -3 -123 at BetBug.

Can Indy stop their free fall? Will they ever find a run defence? Or will we all be chanting RUDY come Tuesday morning?

WAHOO!!!!

Look out NY and BOSTON...we're coming for you. You can have your retread pitchers Bronx Bombers and you can have your never pitched in the big leagues before Asia wonderkinds Red Sox Nation.

I'll take the perennial MVP candidate, to go along with our perennial CY YOUNG candidate.

Jays win the Series next year. You heard it here first.

Michigan, the Rose Bowl and why I'm cheering for OSU

Hard as it is to comprehend, and trust me, for this Maze and Blue fanatic, the very idea of cheering for Jim Tressel and his dirty band of hooligans is complete anthema, but that is exactly what I will be doing this January 8th.

Because once Michigan has had their way with USC in the Rose Bowl, UM (pk) -105 at BetBug, well then the final proof that we should have had our rematch with OSU will be provided only if the Buckeyes absolutely SLAUGHTER the Gators, thus showing everyone who the true #2 (and I would argue at least co-#1...we did play them to a near draw IN THEIR STADIUM...a fact conveniantly forgotten by most pundits...) team in the country is.

So as loathe as I am to say this...GO BUCKEYES!

Thursday, December 14, 2006

Well I'd certainly take it...but...

Jays have offered Wells 18 million over 7 years for 126 million total.

Sounds like alot. But when Texas signs Lofton as a simple stop gap for one year, you just know the Rangers are waiting to back up the proverbial Brinks truck for Wells.

I say he plays out his year with the Jays and then off to the Lone Star State he goes. For something like 170 million over 8 years.

Back In Pin Stripes

As a Toronto Blue Jays fan, this revolting developement of the Yankees re-signing Andy Pettitte is proof once again, that truly, they are the Evil Empire.

Clemens will probably be next too.

How disgusting.

S.I. - You are an abomination

This is getting rather ridiculous. What exactly does Roger Federer have to do to be found worth of the Sportsman of the Year, according to Sports Illustrated?

Win the freakin' Grand Slam?

Christ, he won 3/4ths of it this year and was a finalist in the one he did not win, losing only to Nadal, the better player on clay. No shame there. Federer won basically everything else, just topped off with the win in the season ending ATP Championships a few weeks ago.

There can be only ONE reason why SI refuses to honour Federer and that is because they know that putting Dwayne Wade on their cover will allow them SELL more issues than by rightly placing Federer on the the cover.

Some sportsmanship. Some integrity.

S.I. - What a joke.

Week 14

Four weeks to go in this years NFL season and to say the least, things are still rather unsettled. Especially so given the recent play of Indy and the Bear QB.

BetBug has offers for the Super Bowl for the Bears at +400 and for the Colts at +350.

This week the marquee game is certainly in the AFC West where the Bronco's will attempt to halt their slide into the abyss on the road in San Diego. The Chargers are -7.5 -110 favourites at BetBug and in all honesty, considering Mr. Cutler is not Mr. Romo, I'd have to side with the Powder Blues here.

Speaking of the new Dallas QB, he's home to the Saints in the night game, and here I must say, I like the points. You can get New Orleans at +7.5 -110 at BetBug and that is a great bet. There is some large line inflation going on with the Cowboys right now as everyone is caught up in their new QB's success. But Drew Brees, Reggie Bush, and the Saints are having a pretty good year too. I like the Saints to not just cover the number here, but infact to spring the upset and send Romo hurtling back to Earth.

There's only one Golden Boy in the NFL. He plays in Foxborough, not Dallas, and owns 3 Super Bowl rings.

The Answer is...

It would be very easy to pile on Allen Iverson at this time. Apparently he has probably played his last game in Philly. But I shall refrain. This little guy, with more heart and courage than any player twice his size, can play for my team any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Good Luck to Iverson wherever he ends up.

Week 13

Just one month to go in the 2006 NFL season and in all honesty, the race for the Vince Lombardi Trophy is quite wide open at this point.

BetBug has your Super Bowl odds, AFC odds, and NFC odds (someone has to win that terrible conference!) up right now.

Don't look for a pick here this far into the future though. With this league, it seems like the favourite changes week to week, if not day to day!

There is of course one way for an obvious favourite to occur. If the Colts could ever develop a run defence, well...

But we have been saying that for years.

ONE TO GO

John David Booty and his USC Trojans face not their toughest game of the season this afternooon, but certainly their most important.

Win and they are into the National Championship. Lose and they head to Pasadena (quite the runner up prize!)

If you fancy the Trojans don't forget BetBug has odds up right now for the National Championship.

OSU -175
USC +155

Get in early and get down often!
